EME2040 and OER's
I am in an asynchronous EME2040 class. When I registered for this class, I didn't know what to expect, I honestly thought I was going to learn about projectors and smart boards because those were the only things I could think of when it came to educational technology. I have learned way more than projectors and smart boards, I've learned how to create a website, use social media for educational purposes and so much more. I like that I can schedule when I work on assignments because I'm in an asynchronous class instead of in-person or flex. When I am a teacher I plan on making my classroom an enjoyable experience by interacting with students and really getting to know them. This would make students feel welcome in my class and open to participation.
I have just recently learned about Open Educational Resources or OER's. These are basically educational resources that can be used, edited and redistributed by anyone. A website that this reminds me of is Teachers pay Teachers. This is a website where teachers can upload their lesson plans and other teachers can buy them and edit and use them for their own class. I love this website because you can get ideas, resources and get in contact with other teachers all in the same place.
Working in PowerPoint for Assignment 4 has made me clean up my PowerPoint skills. I haven't used PowerPoint in a couple months and I forgot how to use some tools. After a couple minutes I got reoriented with the program and could easily preform tasks. I like that we have to create a lesson. This is a major part of teaching and it's good to practice. I also think that PowerPoint is a useful classroom tool. When I am being taught a lesson through a PowerPoint I find it easier to stay focused and on task. This is good for students who have a hard time focusing in class. Attached is a screenshot of my assignment.
Great blog post Oscar! I also enjoy being able to schedule when I do the required assignments for this course due to it being online. It allows me to take into consideration the work I have for my other classes as well. I also agree that practicing how to make lesson plans is very beneficial for future educators, because it is a skill that takes time to develop.
ReplyDeleteHi Emma! I too registered for this class online unsure of what it was and thought education technology would be about stuff like projectors. I also like your example of an OER, my step mom is a teacher and I have heard her talk about getting stuff from teachers pay teachers as well as putting resources on there.
ReplyDeleteIf you have to pay (Teachers Pay Teachers), will it be OER?
