The Importance of the Internet
Looking at the standard LAFS.910.L.3.4, I feel prepared to teach it based on my current skill set. This standard basically says that a students needs to learn how to use context clues to find out a rough meaning of the word. Then the student should learn how to conjugate the word and use it in multiple scenarios. Then the student should learn how to look up the word in a dictionary or thesaurus. Then the student should learn how to verify their original guess of the meaning of the word against the dictionary or thesaurus. The reason why I feel that I could teach this is because I use these skills almost every day. When I don't know what a word means I use context clues and guess and then look it up in the online dictionary. I feel this is a useful skill and I would be passionate about teaching it.
One resource I found on the CPALMS educator tool kit was the "Power of Words Student Example." This is a lesson on rhetoric and it gives examples of point of view, logos, ethos, pathos and word choice. It gives student examples and I think this is an important example for students to see. When I was writing papers and my teacher would show me a paper that got an A compared to a B.After she explained the difference, I could clearly see what it took to get an A. I feel seeing examples of right and wrong answers would help students understand why answers are right and wrong and in turn give them a deeper understanding of the material.
It is essential to be proficient in internet searching as a teacher so you can easily find teaching resources. Students have multiple learning styles and two of them are visual and auditory. Finding educational videos on youtube appeal to visual and auditory learners. Finding resources for educators is also important. Teachers can run out of mental energy and finding inspiration on pintrest and blog sites can help teachers get some energy back. Lesson plans, worksheets and exercises are all easily available on the internet and being proficient in internet searching will help educators access these resources easily.
Hey Oscar! The resource from the CPALMS site that you discussed is really interesting, and I agree with your viewpoint that it is an effective method to teach students with!!
