Websites in Education

I took a look at Mrs. Schultz's class website. On this site, she had a class calendar, an "about me" page, and a welcome video. I think that a welcome video is a great idea. In this video, she introduced herself and told students how their first day would go. A lot of children face anxiety on the first day of school and I think that seeing your teacher explain what all is going to go down on the first day reduces anxiety. This would help the first day move a lot smoother.

I envision myself using technology in my professional life in many ways. An online grade book will help me keep track of my student's progress, grades, and missing assignments in an easy and efficient way. I will also use Kahoot as a simple assessment of students' understanding of key concepts. I also see myself using PowerPoint as a tool when teaching certain lessons. I really love PowerPoint when teaching, it is an easy way to have all of the material you need for your lesson in one spot. PowerPoint also keeps your information organized so lesson planning is mostly creating a PowerPoint which I think is fun.

I liked the layout and setup of PBWorks. It was easy for me to edit pages and see what my teammates had edited. I can see myself using PBWorks in my career as a teacher. It would be an easy way to create a class website. I could use the website to upload newsletters, have a class calendar, and have assignment details and due dates all in one place. A course PBWorks could also be useful. All teachers who teach the same subject could have their individual pages linked to the course wiki and then all students would only have to remember one link.

  1. Hi Oscar! I also like the idea of useing a welcoming video in a teacher's blog! It sounds like a great way to intoduce oneself to students and parents. While I also liked PBWorks, I did have some issues. Have a good day!
